The Performing Arts Centre Iceland has selected three companies to participate in CINARS, which will take place in Montreal, Canada, from November 11-16, 2024. The companies Marble Crowd, Trigger Warning, and Handbendi will present their projects at this significant international performing arts market.
At CINARS, representatives from these companies will participate in Nordic Pulse, a joint Nordic pitch event. The Performing Arts Centre Iceland will also have a booth under the name Nordics Combined, in collaboration with Performing Arts Hub Norway, Agency for Culture and Palaces in Denmark, Swedish Arts Council and Swedish Arts Grants Committee, and Cirkus & Dance Info Finland.
Marble Crowd - ØLAND
Marble Crowd is a collective of artists from Reykjavik that focuses on large-scale productions and innovative performances. The project ØLAND revolves around a group of shipwrecked individuals attempting to recreate society from the ruins of the past. Marble Crowd has been recognized by TANZ Magazine and has won awards at the Gríman Awards.
Trigger Warning - Stroke
Trigger Warning is a theatre group that works with documentary theatre and personal stories. The project Stroke is a solo performance based on Virginia Gillard’s experience of having a stroke and her struggle with its aftermath. The project combines videos, sound recordings, and clowning to create a unique show that has been well received in Iceland. Stroke received three nominations for the Gríman Awards 2024, including for Performance of the Year, Incentive Award, and Actress of the Year in a Leading Role.
Handbendi - Meadow and Follow the Wind Home
Handbendi Puppet Theatre specializes in puppet theatre for young audiences. The project Meadow deals with memories and transformations in nature, while Follow the Wind Home focuses on friendship and self-discovery. Handbendi has previously received various recognitions, including the Eyrarrósin Award.
